Six months ago, I set out on a journey that, at the time, seemed like it would be the cure-all for my whole life:
I quit smoking.
When I left the comfort of constant artificial stimulation, it set off a chain reaction in my life that I did not expect to come from quitting.
The first few days? Hell.
The next few weeks? Torture.
Then came the window. It seemed like everything had been worth it.
But what they donāt tell you about is that 40-to-70-day stretch. OMG! Everything that smoking numbed begins to surface.
Oh, I didnāt tell you that cigarettes have a painkilling effect? So those little pains you didnāt notice before?
Guess what? š«£šš
But after all that, itās justā¦gone.
You wake up somewhere around day 75ā80, and itās like, meh.
Thatās what you want, though. Your body has finally learned to regulate itself again.
But it can feel like you did something wrong because it doesnāt feel amazing like you thought it would.
Oh yeahāhow could I forget?
Smoking cigarettes makes toxic relationships look normal.
But Iāll dive deeper into that in a separate post. It definitely deserves one.
Looking back at the journey from six months out, I can accept it and appreciate what my body taught me.
Now, as I look toward further milestonesāand eventually not tracking them at allāI realize I was right:
My life did change forever.
I became my own best friend.
