Aww, fr, that’s crazy 🤔😶

I Am Not Your Personal Savior

As I sit here writing this post, I’m actively choosing not to be the hero at work.

Going in early to help keep the ball rolling smoothly?

No.

Not anymore.

This week, I said something that I’m starting to understand on a deeper level:

Nobody is more important than me.

I can’t be the hero if I’m dead.

And being everybody’s hero has cost me just as many lives as I’ve “saved.”

I’m talking about the versions of me that died trying to make other people happy.

The versions of me that carried their problems so they could feel better, get back on their feet, and move forward.

Then they whistle away…

And somehow, I’m left holding their fight.

No more.

Being everybody’s hero is thankless most of the time.

But being my own hero?

That always pays me.

Because when I started saving me, I realized something:

That is self-love.

My inner child heals.

He starts believing in me again.

And I start believing in me again.

That changes everything.

I don’t have to stop being loving.

I don’t have to stop helping people.

I don’t have to become cold just because I’ve learned to put myself first.

So yes, I can still be Superman.

But I am not your personal savior.

The cape belongs to me too.

Maybe that’s what self-love really looks like sometimes.

Not abandoning everybody else.

Just finally refusing to abandon yourself.
