Me make fire! 🔥

When did we stop bar-b-que’n as a nation?

Naw, for real.

I am Black—yep, like the crayon 😁—and as a people, we bar-b-que’d for any reason we wanted. But especially in the summer and every fall.

It’s the perfect weather.

The smells of different recipes and spices would fill every neighborhood, no matter the race or class.

But now…

Where the fuck is my hood pit masters at, bruh?!

Has everybody become so jaded about outside that we don’t even bother with the grill anymore?

What happened to that grill you bought with all the trimmings and promised the wife you’d use every chance you got?

What happened to the homie pulling up with steaks and a beer like:

“Bro, fire up the grill!”

That wasn’t a request.

That was a statement.

And no true grill master could deny it.

Are we couch french fries now?

Not even couch potatoes anymore because technology done fried us?

I used to rely on the outside people to make outside look fun.

Now everybody is inside with me, and it feels crowded.

Go outside and what do you see?

People moving.

Nobody stopping.

Nobody looking at the sky.

Nobody smelling the food cooking down the street.

Nobody feeling the air move across their skin.

Handle business.

Go back home.

I get it. It’s hotter outside than ever before, but that never stopped us before.

Maybe I’m just a little nostalgic about the past.

Times have changed. Older generations are gone, and new leadership has taken over.

Prices aren’t the same.

More people stopped eating meat.

People aren’t holding onto unhealthy connections just because “that’s family” or “that’s the homie” like they used to.

I get all of it.

But I still stand by my statement:

Where the fuck is all the hood pit masters at, bruh?!

Sheesh! 🙄
