For a very, very long time, I have known about the spiral.
I have been a victim of the spiral.
I have witnessed people while they were spiraling.
I have even warned people because I could see them about to start the spiral.
And I would tell them:
Once you start that process, it is damn near impossible to stop.
But recently, I started looking at the spiral differently.
What if the spiral itself is sometimes inevitable?
What if the problem isn’t that you started spinning?
What if the real question is which direction you’re going?
For the sake of this conversation, I’m going to define a spiral my own way.
It’s my blog. I can do what I want. 😂
A spiral is constant circular movement downward that increasingly feels outside of your control.
And that’s the dangerous part:
Momentum.
The longer you spin, the faster you spin.
The faster you spin, the dizzier you become.
The dizzier you become, the more desperate you become to make the shit stop.
And when your head is swimming, eventually you reach for something.
Anything.
That’s where loneliness gets dangerous.
Loneliness doesn’t say:
“Let’s carefully evaluate whether this person aligns with the life we’re trying to build.”
Loneliness says:
“Grab something! Make this shit stop!”
So you grab the ex.
Attention.
Sex.
A relationship you know isn’t right.
Whatever is close enough to make you feel like you’re no longer spinning.
But here’s what I never really considered before:
Just because you grabbed something and stopped spinning doesn’t mean you’re no longer dizzy.
You may have stopped the immediate movement, but you’re still making decisions with a head that has been spinning.
That’s not necessarily relief.
Sometimes that’s just scarcity finding something to hold onto.
And here’s where this gets even more interesting.
What if the goal isn’t to stop going around?
What if we have been confusing a spiral with a loop?
Because life itself moves in loops.
And unlike the spiral, there may be a lot more control inside the loop than we realize.
This is where I’m leaving you on WordPress. 👀
Because once I followed the Spiral into the Loop, I realized I was looking at something much bigger:
The Spiral.
The Loop.
When Spirals Meet.
The Hurricane.
The Whirlpool.
